Mark Hastie Director of Non-Depository Financial Institutions Minnesota Department of Commerce

Mark Hastie has been the Director of Non-Depository Financial Institutions at the Minnesota Department of Commerce since 2017, overseeing the agency’s regulatory supervision for licensing and examinations for 18 different programs in the areas of mortgage, money services and consumer credit. Mark currently serves on several national boards and committees, including as on the Money Transmitters Regulator Association Board of Directors, was the First Vice President of the National Association of Consumer Credit Administrators, the CSBS/AARMR Multistate Mortgage Committee, the SRR/NMLS Lawyers Committee, and is on the Board of Trustees of the CSBS Education Foundation. He has been a member of CSBS Working Groups that developed model legislation in the areas of nonbank cybersecurity and money transmission. He previously served on the State Coordinating Committee for NACARA. Prior to this role, he was an Audit Director with the Department’s Enforcement Division from 2014 to 2017, overseeing enforcement in the areas of money services, consumer credit, debt collection, and real estate appraisers as well as other areas. Before coming to the Department, he practiced law for litigation firms and was legislative counsel at the Minnesota Senate. Mark has a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Minnesota, and he graduated Cum Laude with a Juris Doctor from the University of St. Thomas in 2008. He is licensed to practice law in Minnesota.
