Introduction to Mortgage Origination Examinations Training Interviewing Tips & Keys to Fact Finding GENERAL TIPS 1. Prepare in Advance: Review policies, procedures, organizational charts, and past findings. Develop targeted questions based on areas of concern or risk. 2. Establish a Professional Tone: Set clear expectations at the beginning of the interview. Remain neutral and objective; avoid sounding accusatory. 3. Build Rapport: Start with introductory or easier questions to ease tension. Use active listening and show engagement with nonverbal cues. 4. Use Silence Strategically: Don’t rush to fill silence — this can prompt more thoughtful or candid responses. 5. Take Notes, But Stay Engaged: If possible, have two examiners: one to ask, one to document. Confirm key points verbally to ensure accuracy. HAVE A PLAN 1. What information is needed?
