The Halo Rise is designed to be an alternative to its Halo Band for those who prefer not to wear a wristband or smartwatch overnight but still want to monitor their sleep. Amazon announced the Halo Rise during in August 2022. Amazon's Halo Rise is designed to use sensors to track micro-movements, like your chest rising and falling as you breathe. It then uses machine learning technology to translate that data into sleep stages. Amazon stated the device “does not include cameras or microphones , ” 581 Amazon has indicated that it has only been trained to analyze breathing patterns and sleep stages, not other activities that might be going on in the room. There is an option to put the Halo Rise into standby mode, which disables the sensor technology used for sleep tracking. 582 The Halo Rise will only track the sleep of the person closest to the device. Amazon indicated that the device was extensively tested and confirmed the technology in many different settings with several types of bedding, single and dual sleepers, pets in the bed, people young and old, and a range of body types. 583 23.1.1 Amazon's Halo Rise Data Collection Types Per Amazon’s Halo app privacy policy , the device can collect information relating to 584 : A user’s fitness metrics, body composition, demographic data, sleep, and tone of voice. Halo Band and Halo View can measure things like skin temperature, motion, and heart rate to provide users with insights into their health. Halo View can also measure on-demand blood oxygen levels. Halo Rise ca n measure a user’s breathing patterns, as well as your sleep environment conditions (such as room temperature, humidity, and light levels), to provide a user with sleep insights. Halo also collects engagement data (data relating to the way you interact with the device and app). This includes information such as whether a user put the device on their wrist or plugged it into a charger. It also includes things like how often a user opened or accessed pages within the app, or whether they used a particular feature or started a Discover program. This helps Amazon improve the Halo service to supply features and content that are most useful for customers. The device sends your breathing pattern data to Amazon's servers for processing. Amazon says this data is encrypted in transit and at rest in the cloud; it is automatically deleted from its systems after 10 days. The company adds that Halo health data is never used for marketing, product recommendations, or advertising. You can download or delete your data at any time via the Halo app.
