Industry Composition and Concentration  There are 5302 FDIC insured banks in operation as of Q2 2019 o 113 institutions left the system in 2019 (through 2 quarters) o 264 banks left the system in 2018 o 243 banks left the system in 2017 o 269 banks left the system in 2016 ― 18 institutions are currently less that 3 years old  Banks with assets less than $10 billion control only 15.75% of total industry assets  4511 banks (85% of all banks) have less than $1 billion in assets and represent 6.36% of industry assets  Approximately 60% of National Bank assets are concentrated in four (4) institutions ― Those four banks hold 40% of total industry assets
