 The secondary means of documenting deliberation: the director’s personal notes  Should notes be kept? – Yes, because notes validate director’s care and accountability – No, because notes evidence lack of care as notes are always incomplete and reflect extraneous matters (e.g., doodles, reminders of other tasks)  Evolving best practice: unresolved, and notes never a substitute for good minutes
