COMMENT WRITING TIPS

• Be organized before you start • Follow a template • Write in active voice • Use prepositional phrases sparingly • Avoid overly long and complex sentences • If you don’t know grammar rules, there’s an App for that! • Avoid obvious phrases and terms: (I know they are sometimes necessary for clarity, but they are mostly filler!) o Of the bank o At this examination o Currently o It is noted that… • Read reports that have been through review • Review the edits you receive from other examiners or review staff • Offer to edit other examiners’ comments • Get someone to edit your comments before you turn them in

“I vastly prefer to be wordy, verbose, and redundant.” Remember this every time you even think about opening the thesaurus!!! 
