Kara Hunter Deputy State Bank Commissioner State of Colorado Division of Banking

Deputy State Bank Commissioner Kara Hunter has been with the State of Colorado Division of Banking for 22 years.  As the Deputy State Bank Commissioner, she is responsibl e for the regulation of state- chartered banks, trust companies, licensed money transmitters, and the Public Deposit Protection Act, all subject to the policy and rule-making authority of the Colorado State Banking Board. Deputy Hunter joined the Division of Banking in August 1998 as a Program Specialist, and since that time has been involved in every possible aspect of the Division of Banking: examinations, budget, applications, legislation, rule-making, Public Deposit Protection Act, Banking Board, operations, money transmitters, marijuana, fintech companies and cryptocurrency.  Ms. Hunter was promoted to the Deputy State Bank Commissioner in December 2019.  Prior to joining the Division of Banking, she was a senior bank examiner with the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City – Denver Branch for over 9 years.
