Business Continuity Planning Business continuity planning focuses on the ability to continue to conduct business during and after a failure or disaster. Business continuity planning is not data centric; it is business centric.
Business continuity planning process should include the resumption and maintenance of all aspects of the business, including employees and facilities, and not just recovery of the technology components Plans should be based on a risk assessment/threat analysis and business impact analysis—which identifies recovery time objectives and potential data retention time frames. The goal is to create recovery strategies and priorities. Disaster Recovery Planning is a subset of Business Continuity Planning. Disaster Recovery Planning allows a business to plan what needs to be done immediately after a disaster to recover from the event.
Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Planning Disaster Recovery Planning It intended to guide management in the recovery process should a disaster, natural or otherwise, occur. Disaster Recovery Planning focuses on what needs to be done immediately during and after a disaster to recover from the event. DRP often focuses on the technical recovery of systems and data. Recovery for critical IT (and other) assets, back up data, and business locations must be included in the plan. DRP often includes incident response, emergency response, damage assessment, evacuation plans, etc. Testing and training are vital for the ongoing operational effectiveness and validation of disaster recovery planning.
