Varanessa Marshall began her career with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) in September 2007 and currently serves as the Assistant Director of the Monitoring and Risk Analysis Section within FDIC’s Division of Resolutions and Receiverships (DRR). In support of DRR’s resolution readiness efforts, she leads a team of managers and analysts responsible for identifying and monitoring resolution risks within large and/or complex and problem banking organizations. Additionally, her team works directly with Federal and State bank supervision authorities to foster orderly resolutions of failing institutions. Mrs. Marshall began and spent the majority of her career in the FDIC’S Division of Risk Management Supervision and earned her Risk Management commission in January 2011. She has significant experience in financial institution risk identification and knowledge of safety and soundness regulatory policies. She served as a senior case manager in the Atlanta Regional Office and oversaw the supervisory strategies of some of the region’s Large Insured Depository Institutions (LIDIs), including the FDIC’s largest state nonmember bank with total assets of approximately $545 billion. She also served as one of the Atlanta region’s LIDI coordinators with responsibility for maintaining a horizontal perspective of identified and emerging risks in all Atlanta Region-supervised LIDIs and developing and executing strategies to support the region’s large bank supervision framework. As a case manager, Mrs. Marshall recommended and managed supervisory strategies for problem and failing banks, as well as processed bank filings with varying complexities. Her prior bank supervision experience also includes planning, examining, and monitoring the operations of a LIDI as a dedicated examiner and serving as examiner-in-charge on complex, problem, and/or failing bank examinations. Mrs. Marshall holds a Bachelors of Business Administration in Finance and Economics, summa cum laude , from University of West Georgia in Carrollton, Georgia. She is also a graduate of ABA Stonier Graduate School of Banking in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
