2022 Journal of Case Studies

Letter from James M. Cooper President & CEO Conference of State Bank Supervisors

State regulators believe it is important to engage young people in the world of banking and financial regulation. We have a responsibility to invest in and help shape the workforce of tomorrow. The annual CSBS Case Study Competition serves that purpose and so much more. This is the eighth year of the competition, which provides undergraduate students with an opportunity to gain valuable first-hand knowledge of the banking industry by partnering with a local community bank and producing original research on the year’s topic. Students make connections with bankers, academics and federal and state regulators, and in turn they provide informative data that advises policymakers about opportunities and challenges for community banks The Journal of Community Bank Case Studies, Volume VII presents three teams who rose to the top from James Madison University, Mansfield University of Pennsylvania and Mississippi State University. They overcame three rounds of judging in a pool of 23 teams from colleges and universities across the nation. This year, student teams partnered with local community banks to examine how they have navigated changes over the past decade and what to expect in the next 10 years. The theme reflects the tenth annual Community Bank Research Conference, sponsored by CSBS, the Federal Reserve Board and the FDIC, where the James Madison team will present its findings. I am truly impressed by the work these students have produced, and I am pleased to present their findings in this journal.

Sincerely,

James M. Cooper President and CEO Conference of State Bank Supervisors
