Professor Prentiss Cox writes and teaches in the area of consumer protection law, public civil law enforcement, civil procedure, and legal practice skills. He is co-founder of Law in Practice which is a required 1L course that teaches integrated doctrinal and professional skills learning. Cox was at the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office prior to joining the faculty in 2005. He prosecuted numerous nationally recognized cases involving subprime mortgage lending, foreclosure, banking regulation, state attorney general enforcement authority, consumer fraud, and related matters. Cox has drafted and testified for numerous consumer protection statutes and rules. He has served as a trainer and consultant for state and federal government agencies and for developing nations. He is a member of the inaugural Consumer Advisory Board of the U. S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and is on the Board of Directors of the State Center for Antitrust and Consumer Protection Enforcement, among other activities. Cox has been selected as a Minnesota Super Lawyer and received numerous University service and teaching awards. He earned a B.A. from Oberlin College, and a J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School.
