• First meeting in 1989 as the Association of Independent Trust Companies. • Approximately 75 members. • Annual conference that usually attracts about 125+ attendees. • This year’s conference is in Denver from September 22-24. • Most members are now mature trust companies with 10 + years of operations. • After a lull, there are again a few new trust companies being formed and thus new members joining ATO. • Most ATO members are more focused upon personal as opposed EB, although there are a few that are very EB focused. A couple new charters are administrative only. • While ATO members are chartered as true “fiduciaries,” much of the work they do is investment advisory as opposed to trust. • Some companies are at a crossroads noting age of founders and looking for ways to transition to the next generation. ATO has created a new “Next Gen” group.
